TV Theme Songs

Among my many "addictions" and "obsessions" are TV theme songs. I can't get enough of them. (Angel and I get along well with this in the background.) Paired with buying domain names, it's only two of the things that take up too much of my time. (I bought two new domains today in fact.)
These are some of the shows and TV theme songs or introductions that I watched growing up. (You can't tell when I was growing up huh?)

1. The Wonder Years I really enjoy that song and style of the opening.
   
2. Mr Belvedre He was fierce.
   
3. Inspector Gadget Brain always fucked things up.
   
4. Bosom Buddies Oh shit, if I only knew.
5. The Snorks My brother liked them more, but he was always in trouble and was grounded from TV.
   
6. The Smurfs
7. Care Bears I have a life-long recurring nightmare about them, a juice box tester lady, a station wagon and an escalator.
8. Thunder Cats I remember them being a toy at Burger King more than the TV show actually.
   
9. She-Ra I think if it came down to it, she would beat the tar out of He-Man.
   
10. ALF I still don't even know what he was. I didn't like that show, but found myself watching it. ...at a young age, I thought he was so crude.
    
11. Webster My favorite part was the secret passageway behind the clock to his room.
    
12. Small Wonder Where can I get me one of those these days? *wink*
    
13. Duck Tales Fierce! I always liked the money diving and Mr. McDuck's things in life.
    
14. Sesame Street There were so many openings, but the song is the same.
15. The Littles Am I the only one or they are a little scary actually.
16. The Big Comfy Couch I used watch this with the kids I'd babysit, but the clowns were too much at times.
    
17. Reading Rainbow ...this is a children's institution, "...but don't take my word for it."
    
18. Captain Planet "EARTH!" "FIRE!" "WIND!" "WATER!" "HEART!" "By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!" FIERCE! I should keep that in mind too. He's a great cartoon hero that I wish would have caught on more then he did.
19. 227 Go ahead tell me I am wrong, but I swear that the stairs they sat on in the front of the building was the same set for Sesame Street.
    
20. Night Court I fucking loved Marsha. Dan was a weasel. Markie Post was such a floozie, but man, Marsha was the best!
    
21. Captain O.G. Readmore Randomly, this song still comes into my head to this day. Rusty reminds me of him sometimes, it's odd, I know, but I can't help it.
    
22. Pee-Wee's Playhouse Okay, this was like ADD on crack kids. There was so much going on and I don't know who's imagination that was, but that's a whole lot. I liked Miss Yvonne and thought I wanted my own Jambie. One time I was in Austin go-go dancing in my underwear on a stage with sunflowers behind it and I thought it was a fucking Pee-Wee tryout.
    
23. Disney Sunday Family Movie I don't even think it was dorky back then, but I enjoyed that my family and I would watch the Dinsey Sunday movie all together. Usually, my dad was done teaching his classes on Sunday night and we could all watch that and eat popcorn. Believe it or not, I was not allowed to watch "The Simpsons" and "Bevis & Butthead" growing up either. Eventually my mom made me stop watching "Unsolved Mysteries" as well becasue I couldn't sleep.
    
24. Silver Spoons ...maybe Ricky Schroder was hot. I don't know yet.
    
25. Scooby-Doo ...such a classic. I have the theme song on my iTunes today.
    
26. Life Goes On I should probably thank Corky for making me understand handicaps more. ...without him and his turmoil with Becca, I would probably be meaner.
    
27. The Facts of Life ...this is one of Angel and I's favorites.
    
28. Richie Rich ...I remember the 1994 movie coming out, but not seeing it all the way. I wanted to be that bitch. He never did a girlfriend right? If I remember correctly, Gloria was always mean to him.

*whew* ...that's enough for now, I need a break from all this TV.

Some of these are not that I watched so much as much as I watched them with the kids I used to babysit or teach. (...believe it or not, I did my internship in elementary education and was "sure" I was going to be a teacher.)

www.retrojunk.com is a great resource for stuff like this from the 70's, 80's and 90's. I really enjoy the COMMERCIALS section too.

Dawson's Creek

I watched a few episodes of "Dawson's Creek" from the first season last night on DVD.

I really like Tamara Jacobs. I think she's hot. Pacy is too. It's such a tragic reality for those two.


I like the theme song from season one by Paula Cole. They have many good songs during the course of that show on TV.

As they grew up and the seasons, opening credits and more changed, it was like I was watching real friends. It's crazy. (...that's why I can't deal with TV too well, I have to remind myself it's not real.)

It cracked me up how many times I saw other movie posters and references to things like "Scream" and "I Know What you Did Last Summer" which were directed by the same director Kevin Williamson. It was crazy. They were everywhere. (He's gay as far as I know which makes it cooler for me.)

Some of it was filmed in Wilmington, NC (DAMN! ...a whole bunch actually.) where I visited with Kyle Foxxx one time. It was SO COOL to see some of the places I went crazy for and watched in high school and college with Kyle. I like seeing places I see on screen come to life. YEA!

MathNet

While I was thinking of childhood shows that I learned alot from and while I was on the heels of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" I thought of the Square One theme song. Square One was like an educational Saturday Night Live that I also used to watch on PBS when I was in Michigan growing up. (This was pre-New Orleans. I moved there when I was a sophomore in high school.) There was one skit called Mathnet with was a slick take off on Dragnet.
As Rusty headed to math class from my office today, I thought how much I didn't like that class and the only math I might have enjoyed was because of Mathnet and "Monday." She used to say, ""My name is Monday. I'm a mathematician." and she had my attention 'cause she was so pretty. (She still is actually.) She's done alot in her big screen history, but Beverly Leech I'd like to thank you personally. If it were not for you, I would like math a whole lot less. (Later on there was a Tuesday when Monday left, but Tuesday just never cut it if you ask me. She has some hard and hot shoes to fill.) She's the only one I know that could carry a calculator instead of a gun and make it look sexy.

This was a great educational show from when I was in school. I wanted to learn more. The TV show featured this theme song and Lynne Thigpen playing the chief. I have always like powerful, fierce black ladies and she was no exception.
