HAPPY MARDI GRAS! (An Explanation)

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!

It's not really Mardi Gras yet, but since Angel Benton says it's like a constant Mardi Gras parade in my head, occasionally my friends just blurt HAPPY MARDI GRAS! out and we understand, yo'.
Howard texts me "Happy Mardi Gras" and I think, "Brandon, pull yourself together." and then go back out to my own parade route in my head a few minutes later. Nice try Howard! *wink* It still cracks me up though.

This photo is of the Mardi Gras basket I have in my office. It's just the top level beads that I have from the most recent Mardi Gras. I have a much larger basket in Los Angeles in my storage unit for now. YEA!
...those confederate beer can beads were supposed to go to my hick brother, don't worry, they are not mine.

When I get stuck on any topic and I get obsessive, Angel says something like, "Oh shit, the Miss Forstall float just broke down. We are going to stuck on here for awhile now." (I want the Andrew float to get here soon.)
Likewise, when I keep talking about random things that make no sense, someone will say, "Slow it down now, we don't want all the floats to crash into each other."

It's a fun way to explain the madess that makes up Brandon Baker that is in my head and close my heart since it's Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Next up, Angel Benton will try to explain "Brandon Baker: The Experience" if I were a ride at a theme park. *wink*

Mardi Gras Garbage

If you are not from New Orleans, this may sound strange, but one of the ways the city used to measure the success of a parade and Mardi Gras as a whole is to measure the garbage picked up after the celebration rolls though.
Times have changed and it's no longer officially the way, but the theory remains.

Everyone is asking how Mardi Gras and New Orleans are doing after the hurricane and according to many reports, this year it was a success.

http://www.nola.com/mardigras/index.ssf/2008/02/piles_of_trash_dont_lie_mardi.html

Some reports cite as many as twice as many (...from 25 to 50) trucks were needed this year.
However, if I wanted numbers to be up, I could report that too. I'd use smaller trucks. See what I mean?

Plus, this year, the garbage is privatized. ...that tends to skew things too if you ask me.

All in all, there was a pre-hurricane feel to this years celebration.

Mardi Gras 2009 Photos II - Around New Orleans

Here are some photos from around New Orleans and the French Quarter I took one day while I was waiting for the boys to join me at lunch.

Mardi Gras 2009 Photos I

Here are some of my first Mardi Gras photos. I have quite a few more that I will upload shortly.

We returned last night and I have to be in the office today. Not only is that a pressing matter of time, but my plans are to be out of the Los Angeles office and into Las Vegas on Monday, so I still have lots of packing in my office to do.

It was a wonderful trip. I had to much fun, was with wonderful people, spent time with my family, enjoyed New Orleans and had one of the best times ever! YEA!

Camera Phone Photos 21Feb09

I am at the first hotel getting ready to check out and hijacking the last of the internet I have on the room before I head over the lake to my parents.

Here are a few photos from my camera phone that I wanted to share.

This isn't from New Orleans, it's from Hollywood. Melrose Ave. actually, it's a funny sign that I saw the other day. IT says, "Sleep with me, I'm on Sale." and was for a furnishings outfit or interior design place, I can't remember. I thought that was cool.

Now you have some "R&R." Roxy and Rusty were asleep at the hotel.

Here is what Hollywood Blvd. looks like as it's closed in front of the Kodak Theater for the Oscar preparation the other day. It didn't help me in my route home, but it's neat that the city allows such a thing. YEA!

Now here's New Orleans. Here is a building that I think is beautiful as I walking to a friends house yesterday to catch up.
It was so crazy because I was at his same apartment years ago when I tricked with these two boys. It was so strange to be back in the same apartment with someone else. It's a small world, I tell you.

I went to lunch by myself when we landed. Rusty was too tired and went to sleep. I was so thrilled to be back home, I went to one of my favorite places, Mona Lisa Cafe', and had a calzone and Praline cheesecake. YUM!

I plan on taking more photos with the an actual camera to share more of the weekend with you.

Have a good weekend and whatever you are doing, throw in some purple, green and gold for me. *wink*

Mardi Gras 2009

I was looking at flights for Mardi Gras. I am already excited about it. YEA!

Years ago I would have asked, "Who is Marty Graw?" Now I say, "Geaux git yerself a plane ticket and get goin down to dat dere N'Awlins."

If you wondered, my own explanation of Mardi Gras is celebrating and a time of true decedance when you can be caught indulging and doing crazy things before you would give them up for lent.
The dates of the 2009 Mardi Gras is February 24.
"Throw me somethin' mister." You can check out the parade schedule is HERE. They start before Valentine's Day. The first one is uptown on the 13th.
You can find out more about Mardi Gras at www.mardigras.com, www.nola.com, www.neworleans.com and www.neworleansonline.com.

It is one of my favorite times of the year. It's so festive and globally local. (If that makes sense.)

The flights from LAX to MSY on SideStep were all about $280.00, they were higher from LAS to MSY.

When I was in high school I used to work seasonally at a store called 'Mardi Gras Imports.' It was always so much fun.
Sometimes after hours, we would host a shopping night complete with drinks and music for the "Krewes." (Krewes are the groups that are on the floats.)

Purple, green and gold always excite me until I get halfway though Mardi Gras and then I start bleeding or throwing up the three colors

Here's to a fun, safe, exciting and colorful Mardi Gras in New ORleans.

Mardi Gras is 61 Days Away

I know it's not even technically Christmas yet and the fat man in red is already being replaced in my head with the purple, green and gold jesters of the Big Easy's signature celebration. I can't help it.

There are only 61 days until Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Mardi Gras in New Orleans! - Mardi Gras 2009 Dates
