Escort Travelers Check Scam

Escorts on www.rentboy.com should be getting less "spam" e-mail messages. I know I see these every day on accounts. I stopped several tens of these messages that were sent to escorts this morning. Escorts: Be careful and extra cautious of messages like this. The phone number shows from Ohio. The way this scam tends to work is once you get the fake counterfeit checks and deposit them, the person cancels the trip and asks you to send the money back. The bank usually holds you liable for the funds you thought you deposited that were in fake checks. Southern Florida Police Calls

We have heard of several calls (...more than just one or two.) from the Miami area that we have this to say about:

Dear Rentboy advertisers in Southern Florida,

Someone claiming to be a police officer is calling escorts and masseurs in the Miami area, warning escorts about a police investigation. It is not clear that these calls are from a “real” police officer—they may be fake; it may be a crank call or a person trying to scare escorts, we do not know. We have not heard of a single arrest in the Miami area.

It is illegal to impersonate a police officer. If you get a call from a person claiming to be a police officer, you should ask for his or her badge number and telephone number, so that you can verify if the caller is real.

In the eyes of the law, escorting is legal, as long as you are selling your TIME only. It is illegal to offer sexual acts in exchange for money, so do not offer to perform sexual acts for money on the phone or in your ad if you want to prevent police attention or entrapment.

Hey guys, ocassionally, okay, often I hear about an email scam that targets escorts. I mean, it's fairly easy 'cause what are the going to do? ...run to the police? it It's not fair, but some things in life are not.
If you are an escort, beware of an email from an email that looks in variation, like this alex_hleb1950@yahoo.com and reads like this.

Escorts and Western Union

Let me tell you a little story about Western Union. (Western Union is a medium people can use to send and receive money.)...that's not the story, silly, there is much more...)

Generally, with escorts, it spells trouble. Now not always, mind you, I have used it before with clients, but 80% of the time, it's going be a scandal.I tend to operate and preach the rule that "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."However, there are always exceptions to the rules. (...and ones that have been, have been worth bending the rules for me.)

I had a client call me and want me to come to an island off Spain. I asked him to send a portion of the money up front to validate that this trip was real. I mean, there is not many other ways to assure that after I fly halfway across the world, that someone will be there to pick me up, I have a return ticket and that it is a legitimate deal. One way to assure that is to ask the client to send some of the money up front. It's one of the few instances I think it's okay to do that. If they do that paired with a verifiable, confirmed, paid for plane ticket, it is on the way to looking pretty legitimate. This particular instance happened on a Thursday and the client wanted me in Spain on Saturday. (Quick timing, if you ask me, but it is about instant satisfaction a majority of the time in this business.) Sure enough, I asked him to send some of the money via Western Union and he did. (Ethical and good escorts, keep in mind, this represents a liability for you until you see the person. Suppose he cancelled and you, as a good escort, were to refund some of it, just like the advance deposit money at a hotel they take for a reservation in the future, in the accounting rules, this is not an asset yet.) So there are times that Western Union is an acceptable practice for dealing with money.

However, I just heard a story from an escort who did not have such a favorable time. The escort called and said, "A client wants me to go to London and he wants to make sure I am not going to flake, so he asked me to send $200.00 towards a plane ticket via Western Union." The escort told me how he did and now the client is calling and telling him that it's a little more expensive then he thought for the flight and he needs another $100.00. The escort was asking me what to do. I wanted to kiss the escort on the cheek and tell him how cute he is.

...for a moment I realized how easy it is to be naive and that trusting souls are everywhere.

In reality, it kinda sucks for the clients, however, the business does not work that way. If they client wants you, they will make the arrangements for it and enjoy the time with you when they do.

Naturally, shady people prey upon this industry. What is an escort going to do, run to the police and tell them, "I was hooking and this guy took advantage of me?" Nope, probably not going to happen.

I want to keep posting a few circumstances that I feel deserve some attention because things like this are often not talked about and could happen to any new escort.

This is a news story about an escort I know that was at a few events.

Man charged with trying to kill Sarasota couple

SARASOTA - The U.S. State Attorney's Office has charged 23-year-old Edmon Vardanyan for traveling in interstate commerce with intent to kill, injure, harass or place under surveillance with intent to kill, injure, harass or intimidate another person.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum term of 20 years imprisonment, 3 years supervised release and a fine of $250,000.

The FBI investigated Vardanyan for stalking a Sarasota couple: 69-year-old Grigori Komissarchuk and 64-year-old Galina Komissarchuk.

It started in September of 2006 at the couple's other home in Brooklyn, New York when Vardanyan acted as a deliveryman and tried to hit the husband.

The next day the man was hit in the head with a blunt object.

He was beaten, kicked and lost consciousness and any memory of how the attack ended. The victim received a ruptured pancreas and abdominal bleeding--no suspects in that beating.

When the couple returned to their home in Sarasota on December 9th of 2006, a man with a hammer began to beat Mrs. Komissarchuk after the couple arrived home from dinner.

The assailant kicked open the door to the home and also attacked Mr. Komissarchuk in the head with a hammer.

Both were treated at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Mr. Komissarchuk suffered a skull fracture among other things.

The suspect, Edmon Vardanyan, was identified by the couple as the suspect in a photo lineup.

Last April, the wife was attacked again in Brooklyn by a man that jumped out of a van. That van's license place was from Sarasota County. An occupant inside the van was identified by NYPD as Edmon Vardanyan, but was released.

Vardanyan later admitted to FBI detectives that he was hired to scare the couple because they owed money to some individuals and refused to pay the debt.

Vardanyan said he was paid $2,000 if the job was done right.

A hit to kill the couple was talked about with a price of $10,000 for each person.

The couple told detectives they fear for their lives and refuse to return to their Sarasota home. Both have trouble sleeping at night due to their anxiety and both suffer lingering effects from their injuries.
