Morgan's Hotel Group

I totally love this ad for the hotel group called, "Morgans Hotels."

Check out this link http://www.morganshotelgroup.com/so/q3.html?cid=2009Q3B after you've decided who you would like to be.

I don't know. ...most of the time, I'd probably be "The Hedonist" but here and there I'd be "The Escapist.' Few times I am any of the others.

I liked the "Morgan's Hotel" I stayed at in New York, but I have a "Pet Peeve" about it because they charged me for a pet when Rusty brought Roxy one time and ummm... it wasn't cheap.

Chicago Hard Rock Hotel

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago all weekend. It was really cool. I kept calling it the Hard Cock Hotel when I would Twitter. (www.twitter.com/brandonbaker)
I was upgraded to a hotel room that sure gave me a bunch more space to party in. I think we had lots of fun all weekend and I wanted to send some special thanks to the Grabby's and to GrandLuxeTravel for that treat.

Hotel Humor

One of the Twitter-ers I follow and love is "TheHotelsHotel."

Considering the post I posted earlier, how funny is this image to the left that is the background for the homepage? Oh dear. *ROFL* I sure feel like that is indeed the case sometimes. (I hate using those initials, so even after I did, I feel like I should spell out what it means - Rolling On The Floor Laughing. Now I won't feel bad if I use it again.)

...but the laughs didn't stop there, I chuckled at the thumbnail image on the account too. (I included it to the right.) *hehe*

Parent Companies and Hotels

It always fascinates me how many companies, including hotels, have many brands under one parent company umbrella.

Sometimes, the parent company does not exactly make it easy to find out who shows ownership as in the case of McDonald's being a sister company to Boston Market (No wait, they sold that.) and Chipotle (No wait, they sold that too.) I could go through life and not know or care about that however, I am a hotel fanatic, so here's some of my intrigue as to who owns what right from the websites.

If you are Team Rusty, you know he's a Starwood freak. He loves the Starwood hotel brand and keeps pushing me to get a job there. (I can't imagine why. *wink*) I have to say, Starwood is one of my favorite brands too. They have a budget concious brand called the Four Points and quite a few luxury brands like the St. Regis. The W is chic and trendy and own of our mutual favorite brands under Starwood Hotels.

Formerly the Cendant Corporation, now called 'Wyndham Worldwide' many of the mid-market and economy brands beds are part of a big family with a big sister hotel of the recently purchased Wyndham hotel brand. (I can't speak for Angel, but I think this is his favorite branding for points.) ...for awhile the LaQuinta brand was with Baymont if I am not mistaken. Man I need to keep up with my hotel branding. (Brandon & Branding.)

I don't dare overlook the formidable Marriott empire that has such brands as the Residence Inn and high end Ritz-Carlton that is synonymous with posh lodging. IN college, the Marriott was one of the most progressive companies I studied.

Check out the Hyatt high end brands to the right. I just stayed, (...well sorta stayed.) at a Hyatt Place in Austin this past weekend and LOVED IT! Go Hyatt! (...maybe I will check into a career with that brand.)

Who knew the Holiday Inn's big sister is the higher rated Intercontinental Hotels? The Staybridge Suites is an extended stay concept as with the purchased Candlewood Suites. Indigo is a new "Earth Concious" hotel that they have. It's cool. Holiday Inn also has another brand of resorts that I don't see here called the Sunspree Resorts.

Hilton HHonors is the customer loyalty program of the Hilton brand which took over the Promus Corporation years ago and assumed the parent role for the then Promus' Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn among others. Good move eh? I love the Hilton brands, it symbolizes much of hospitality to me from the days I remember the old Hilton logo.

It works with XXX companies too. ...for example; Men4RentNow, Men4SexNow (...not to be confused with Sex4HotMen which forwards to AtomicMen.com now.) and HardcoreGaySexxx are all related with an affiliate program of DickyDollars. Man, that's a mouthful alright huh? *wink*

Now that I totally feel like a hotel geek... (...someone already bought the domain, I just checked. ARGH!)

"You know you've worked in hotels when..."

My friend sent me this link on Facebook that is hotel related and is part of, "You know you've worked in hotels when..."
It's pretty funny and very true.

1) Getting up at 4am on sunday is standard practice.

2) You can't switch on anything electrical without a credit card sized piece of plastic.

3) getting 2 days off in a row is like a having a 2 week vacation.

4) You uses abbreviations and acronyms for EVERYTHING, like DM, PMS, MOD, C & E, F & B, HR, FOM etc...

5) Your stomach, now used to eating staff canteen food, is capable of swallowing ANYTHING!

6) Your day somehow doesn't seem complete without someone yelling at you in full view of the rest of the hotel, convinced they are right about everything, when in actuality they are so wrong its untrue.

7) People assume you know the answer to everything, when actually you just came on shift 5 minutes ago.

8) You were supposed to finish work a 3pm, but its 4.30 and you're still here.

9) Your bank is NEVER balanced.

10) You learn, VERY QUICKLY, to never, EVER, f**k with the person who handles your food!

11) Back to Backs, double and split shifts are the norm.

12) Minibars are NOT REFRIDGERATORS!!!!!!!!!!

13) Minibars are AUTO CHARGING AND WEIGHT SENSITIVE!!

14) Guests do not grasp the concept of nos 12 and 13!

15) Conference and Events never has the same staff working on two consecutive parties, as all of the staff are hired on a shift by shift basis.

16) At least one person will complain about the fact their debit card has a mysterious charge on it, which takes 8 days to clear. But of course we did ask for a CREDIT card on check in!!

17) No matter how hard you try to explain that the room type was REQUESTED, NOT GUARANTEED, the guest always expects to get a Non Smoking, King Size Bed with a view!!

18) Air conditioning is ALWAYS noisy. No matter how far from the unit the room is, someone can hear it rattling.

19) See number 10, but replace food with Laundry!

20) Guests insist on splitting the bill so that the "movies" they order are not on the same credit card.

21) Office politics are more OTT than real politics.

22) your social life revolves entirely around work nights out, since that's the only guaranteed time off you get to go out and get wasted!!

Post more in the wall and the best will get added to the list

I was asked to post the following, let me know what you think:

"I am a Front Desk Agent"

I have advanced degrees in Accounting, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Swahili. I can also read minds.

Of course I have the reservation that you booked six years ago even though you don't have the confirmation number and you think it was made under a name that starts with "S".

It is completely my fault that the blizzard shut down the airport and you have to sleep in a warm king-size bed while 5000 of your co-travellers are sleeping in benches at the airport. I am sorry.

It is not a problem for me to give you seven connecting, non-smoking, poolside suites with two king beds in each, four rollaways, 3 cribs, and yes, I can install a wet bar. I know it is my fault that we do not have a helicopter landing pad.

I am a Front Desk Agent. I am expected to speak all languages fluently. It is obvious to me that when you booked your reservation for Friday on the weekend we're sold out that you really meant Saturday. My company has entrusted me with all financial information and decisions, and yes, I am lying to you when I say we have no more rooms available. It is not a problem for me to quickly construct several more guest rooms. THIS time I will not forget the helicopter landing pad. And it is my fault that everyone wanted to stay here. I should have known you were coming in, even though you had no reservation. After all, you stay at our brand of hotel all the time, 300 nights a year, and this is only the first time you've ever been to our city.

I am a front desk agent. I am quite capable of checking three people in, two people out, taking five reservations, answering fifteen incoming calls, delivering six bath towels to room 625, plunging the toilet in room 101, and restocking the supply of pool towels, all at the same time. Yes, I will be glad to call the van driver and tell him to drive over all the cars stuck in traffic because you've been waiting at the airport for 15 minutes and you've got jet lag.

I am a front desk agent, an operator, a bellhop, houseman, guest service representative, housekeeper, sales coordinator, information specialist, entertainment critic, restauranteur, stock broker, referee, janitor, computer technician, plumber, ice-breaker, postman, babysitter, dispatcher, laundry cleaner, lifeguard, electrician, ambassador, personal fitness trainer, fax expert, human jukebox, domestic abuse counselor, and verbal punching bag. Yes, I know room 112 is not answering their phone. And of course I have their travel itinerary so I know exactly where they went when they left here 9 hours ago, and what their cell phone number is.

I always know where to find the best vegetarian-kosher-Mongolian-barbecue restaurants. I know exactly what to see and do in this city in fifteen minutes without spending any money and without getting caught in traffic. I take personal blame for airline food, traffic jams, rental car flat tires, and the nation's economy.

I realize that you meant to book your reservation here. People often confuse us with the Galaxy Delight Motel, Antarctica. Of course I can "fit you in" and yes, you may have the special $1 rate because you are affiliated with the Hoboken Accounting and Bagel Club.

I am expected to smile, empathize, sympathize, console, condole, upsell, downsell (and know when to do which), perform, sing, dance, fix the printer, and tell your friends that you're here. And I know exactly where 613 Possum Trot Lane is in the Way Out There subdivision that they just built last week.

After all, I AM a Front Desk Agent!

And following on from this I bring you -

I am an Event Manager!

I am an Event Manager...
I have unlimited resources at my disposal.
I always keep at least 10 meeting rooms under my desk.
I can make any of my rooms larger or smaller, depending on your program needs. I will naturally remove any supporting pillars from your meeting space and will install windows in every room as needed.
Unfortunately the 'ocean view' is not scheduled to arrive until Day Two of the program for which I sincerely apologise; however, I will move the convention centre two feet to the left to accommodate your request by the end of Day One, although I realize the event is only next week.
I can only throw myself on your mercy and grovel at your feet; I completely agree that it is inconceivable that we should have any other groups booked into the hotel during our event. And the additional breakout rooms you asked for this morning for tomorrow's conference will be added to the hotel by the end of today.
Naturally it will be no problem to turn the plenary session for 200 (classroom style) into a hollow square for 300 with rear screen projection, simultaneous Japanese translation and satellite hook-up during the 15-minute coffee break.
Unfortunately, due to space constraints, and the fact that the final program bears no resemblance whatsoever to the initial program that we contracted the space under, I'll have to suspend the lunch buffet from the ceiling above the plenary session, then suck the gravity out of the ballroom - not a problem.
I've located the boxes that the sponsors sent last month under their mother's maiden name to the other hotel down the street, and again I apologise for not having found them sooner.
In answer to all your questions, it is of course, understood that I am telepathically aware of all your speakers needs and I'll set up an overhead, LCD panel, dual slide projectors, two screens, laser pointer, podium microphones, two table top microphones, podium knock-out switch, timer and blue M&Ms in each room, which I've negotiated at no extra charge, just in case they are needed.
Additionally it goes without saying that an A/V technician, engineer, baby-sitter and I will be underneath your head table for the duration of your event, in case you need anything else.
It has been great working with you on this event and every other just like it and I can't wait for the next one!!

In addition these posts, please also read the newest topic on our discussion board, entitled: THE BEST COMPLAINT EVER!!!

The Roosevelt New Orleans Blog

Lisa asked me today about the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. I thought, "Wait, there isn't a Roosevelt in New Orleans, that hotel is in Hollywood." Then I thought, "Oh wait, this is ringing a bell for some reason." I looked it up online and there is/was indeed a Roosevelt New Orleans. Only the most recent incarnation was the Fairmont Hotel. ...that is where my ex-boyfriend in New Orleans worked. Fierce. MORE
After Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the Fairmont is one of the businesses that found the rebuild to be much more than anticipated and halted re-construction.

Today I found out that the management company that I used to work for called "Dimension Development" has purchased the building and is planning to restore it to a former glory with a new twist as the Roosevelt New Orleans under the "Waldorf-Astoria" flag. HOT!
It looks like the don't have the Holiday Inn Covington, LA any more which is the property I used to work for, but they have expanded plenty.
The management company also owns the Homewood Suites Downtown New Orleans is based in Natchitoches, Louisiana. (...pronounced like Nack-a-dish.)

Doubletree New Orleans Downtown

I stayed at the New Orleans Doubletree Downtown last night with Dustin.

While I am very impressed with Dustin, this particular hotel lacks any good impression.

I have stayed at the dated Doubletree hotel before so this isn't my first time.
It's located right next to one of the two 5 star hotels in the Big Easy that is called the Windsor Court. (My information might be outdated though just like the Doubletree decor, I need to brush up on that statistic. ???)
I didn't enjoy it and can't recommend it based on the room quality, service, atmosphere and decor. It's an old hotel that needs to be updated.
The worst part is I worked for one the other properties it's management company owns near the convention center while I was in New Orleans before.

The Hilton chain bought up Promus Hotels after a series of other mergers before it which made up the now Doubletree brand.

Tonight I am a different hotel at the airport. I say tonight, but I mean, I checked in about 1:00pm after a not so late checkout at the Doubletree. Now I am online, showering, packing and pretend resting (I rest when I am on the plane.) before I depart the Big Easy at 7:30pm, so it was really only 5 hours I was at the airport hotel. Good thing it was only $41.00 on www.priceline.com. (...that's less than a half day charge I would have paid to stay at the Doubletree New Orleans.)

Site of the Moment - Priceline & BiddingForTravel

I have really good luck with Priceline.com. ook at this flight record. The ones with green check marks are the ones that were accepted. You should see my hotel record, it's twice as many total records and looks similar.

I might be overbidding if all my records are winners huh? Hummmmm?

I think it was Jason Carter who told me about www.biddingfortravel.com. It's a site to use in conjunction with Priceline where it shows you what other people are bidding and winning so you can bid a little less. It also shows what hotels, flights, and cars as well as other travel items people can get, so you know what MIGHT happen. Thanks for that Jason.

Westin Shower Head

You know what I really like?
...the shower head at the Westin Hotels.
It really gets me all wet and excited. *wink* No I mean, it really gets me wet. It has two shower heads and gets my whole body wet in the shower at one time.
It's one of the many pleasures I have when I am traveling and sincerely enjoy.

You can find out more about it HERE, order it online HERE (It's $130.00) along with some of the other products the Westin offers that are for sale when you get home. http://www.westin-hotelsathome.com.

In fact, ordering hotel products are big business, here's a helpful listing of 'Hotel Shops.'
http://hotels.about.com/od/hotelsecrets/a/hotel_shops.htm

("Westin Shower Head" - the title of this blog sonds like a begining of a porn where I get a blow job in the shower of a Westin Hotel, huh?)

Faux Doors

I loved the glass doors at the Le Meridian in San Francisco.
They were regular glass doors but had some laminate that were beautiful doors that made it look like they were doors you would find at homes.
Novel and nifty...

HustlaBall New York Hotel

I just found a good deal in New York for a hotel over the HustlaBall New York dates.
CLICK HERE to find out more.
Unfortunately the night of the 11th is sold out.
The nights around it are only $199.00 which is a GREAT deal so far.
Let me tell you, the hotel rooms for the performers for the HustlaBall New York are CRAZY high. (...some rooms are as high as $400.00 a night.)
I just booked myself in there.
Plus, Rusty and I have stayed at this hotel before and it's okay.

Many of our own performers are staying at the Holiday Inn Express. They have a good deal with get a night free which, when averaged out, is about $275.00 per night.
The Chelsea Inn is booked.
The Chelsea Savory is $350.00 per night.

I also say check out www.GrandLuxeTravel.com for some help and travel deals. He's been helping me with some room rates and deals and has done very wwll with finding deals and steals.

TAG Directory Marketing

I picked these ads out of the T.A.G. Directory because I thought they were cool.
  1. I like the New Orleans one of course.
  2. The one in the New York, New York ad guy is HOT! HOT! HOT!
  3. Does that Travelocity one really say "water sport?" I love it.
  4. I like the 'Express' because they play on their own brand.
  5. The Wingate Inn guy is GORGEOUS. Does that really say "hooked?" FIERCE!
You can see the online version of the "Travel Alternatives Group" and it's approved hotels online at www.tagapproved.com.

Hyatt Hotel West Hollywood's Re-Birth

I like to watch the Hyatt West Hollywood renovations as they happen.
Right now, it's closed for it's transformation to the new name of "ANdAZ West Hollywood.'
I have a "thing" for abandoned buildings and hotels so when it's together, that's an extra shot of hotness.

Trashed Hotel Rooms

My friend sent me this link with a "Top 10" list of trashed hotel rooms.
Given my fascination with hotel rooms and the mess I usually leave behind in normal places, this was a cool story.

My friends know, I usually go crazy at hotels and keep it clean. I remember a time in Hollywood, CA at the Westin Diplomat and New Orleans at the W when the room that Rusty and Angel were in should have been on that list of celebrity trashed rooms. YUCK.
I looked for a photo of one of the hotel rooms that I swore I had because I was so shocked and I couldn't find one easily, but I did find this where it shows Rusty is really good at pressing buttons.

Concierge

In hotels, a concierge assists guests with various tasks like making restaurant reservations, arranging for spa services, recommending nightclubs, procurement of tickets to special events and assisting with various travel arrangements and tours of interesting places to visit. In upscale establishments, a concierge is often expected to "achieve the impossible", dealing with any request a guest may have, no matter how strange, relying on an extensive list of personal contacts with various local merchants and service providers.
Here's a great recount of what it's like to be a concierge.
http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/travel/article3681312.ece

I think a true hotel concierge is a very prestigious job.

I remember when the hotel concierge of the Windsor Court in New Orleans was in trouble for being connected to a brothel scandal that was going on. (MORE) I thought, "Man, that sucks, to be a good concierge, you almost HAVE to have those contacts." (...along with many, many other indiscretionary contacts.)

I like the Hotel Babylon show because it shows a little of that hotel position. (...and the rest of the hotel world that fascinates me.)

No W, W

I didn't realize that the W in Las Vegas had been canceled.

Of course, this photo is from the W Hotel in New Orleans on Poydras. I chose it because it was from New Orleans even though it's not related to the hotels above.

Insane Asylum Hotel

www.HotelChatter.com is one of my favorite hotel websites to check out what's going on.

Check out this story on hotel conversions; HotelChatter || TrendWatching: Will Prison Hotels Be Replaced By Insane Asylum Hotels? and more HERE.
FIERCE! I love it. I'd stay there.
I've seen this idea before too a few times.

I am intrigued with the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel right down the street from me too.

I might be the latter huh? *sigh*
I love the style of this hotel, it's so beautiful. Plus, it's that era of Hollywood that I love to find out more about.

More New Hotel Logos

DAYS INN

I saw today that Days Inn has a new rebranded logo.
Good for them. I think they needed it.
It's a new day. (Great marketing if you ask me. ...and if you are asking me, they need a new day, so go DI!)I am disappointed that I didn't see this news until now.
I remember a day when I was more interested in hotel gossip then hooker and gay porno gossip. *sigh*

BEST WESTERN

I remember when I used to travel with my family and see the BEST WESTERN logo like the one on this ashtry to the left (...which I of course, bid on EBay for right away.) instead of the familiar blue one to the right. (Best Western is indeed the largest hotel chain if you go by number of hotels as they have many, many franchises.)
For some strange reason I remember a Best Western in Athens, Georgia with the yellow on black logo.

HOLIDAY INN

Holiday Inn did it again too. They have a fairly new logo too on the soap, shampoo and signs.

...for awhile, I remember when Holiday Inn was owned by a beer company. Bass Ale, at that time it was Bass PLC was the holding company that owned the inns. Then it went to Holiday Inn Worldwide and Promus (...who started the concept for Hampton Inns.) and then I remember the day that we found out we went jumping into the high end when Intercontinental bought the brand. It's still owned by them, but as Six Continents or something like that. ...to this day, the high end Holiday Inn would be a Intercontinental, but they like to keep that brand a little separate.
Originally, the plans called for Holiday Inn Express to be called "Express by Holiday Inn" but that's didn't last long.
Okay, branding Brandon, you are talking about branding.
You know I am old because WHILE I WAS WORKING FOR HOLIDAY INN, they changed logos once or twice while I was there and now they are at it again.
Kemmons Wilson, who started Holiday Inn, would most likely be thrilled as they struggle to keep up with the changing of images marketing forces you to do.

I remember when the logo on the left was new for Holiday Inn and I thought was new fangled. *whoa*
When I FIRST went with Holiday Inn's in like 1998 or so, the logos to the right were the company standard.
I worked at a "Select" brand and a "Hotel & Suites" brand in the New Orleans area for years through the ranks.
