Dental Damn!

Thank goodness for insurance.
...that's all I have to say.

Okay, that's not all I have to say. I am Brandon Baker, you should know better.

ADVICE FOR ANY OTHER ESCORTS OUT THERE:
www.BlueCrossBlueShield.com
GET SOME MEDICAL AND DENTAL INSURANCE!
(I am not a compensated endorser like Ed McMahon, however I am available.)

As I prepared for the dentist appointment I had last week I was reminded that no matter what, brushing my teeth for 20 minutes the day of the appointment is not going to help that much. I stood there and brushed and brushed...

That insurance thing, yea, really helpful. I had the first opportunity to use the insurance I started back in October. I was so friggin' happy to write a $5.00 co-pay check for the x-rays, consultation, and examination. YEA for that $5.00.

  • Okay, growing up I had braces for a LONG time. I think it was a total of 7-8 years. My teeth were not even that fucked up, but in my opinion, it worked. My parents would be PISSED if I did not keep it up. I noticed that the my two front teeth are starting to be a little crooked again and panicked. I went in and told the doctor that think I needed to get a retainer again. He said, "Where is your old one?" I said, "...by now? Probably the middle of the trash heap somewhere near New Orleans." He said, "...retainers don't go away, you should always have one. Just get them adjusted." so I made an appointment to get another one next month.
  • At times, I can take being called "dumb." I have my blond moments. (Okay, it's been a few blond years, but hey...) The doctor said it's time to have my wisdom teeth as he called out the hygienist. "Extraction, 2, 15 and 31." and I don't know how to decode that. For all I know he could have been ordering lunch. I couldn't help but laugh and expose my own joke when I said, "Can we just leave those? I need all the wisdom I can get?"
  • He also said I need to get a cavity filled. It's very small so it wont' be a problem. Brandon Baker has his first cavity.
  • He looked at my gold tooth and said, "Where did you get that?" I said, "New Orleans." He said, "When?" I said, "I don't even know what today is, I don't know. Do you want me to call my mom?" and he laughed. He said, "They don't do that too much anymore, it's usually colored to match the rest of your teeth." I looked at him and said, "Don't mess with my gold tooth. I like it."
  • I scheduled my regular cleaning too.
  • I was a bit reddened when he said, "Wow you are a grinder too." I thought, "Did he see me at Tigerheat?" *wink* (Grinding is a dirty kind of dancing if that's sounding Greek to you.) I can't exactly be PROUD of my flat teeth because I got them by doing so many drugs. I mean, ecstasy has some side effects and one of them is grinding your teeth. If I remember correctly, that's why I have the gold tooth in the first place - I ground right through a crown I had. I always hear things like, "You have such pretty teeth. Did you have cosmetic surgery or veneers to get them like that?" and my snappy answer is, "No that took years of ecstasy." Now rather then sleeping with a cute boy and having hot sex on ecstasy, I can make plans to sleep with a nightguard in my mouth. ARGH!
  • ...and of course, 'cause it's all the rage, I want to get them whitened.
The price for all that work is still kinda high. I said the PRICE is high, not me, the price is high. It would cost without my HMO (How about that, a HOMO with an HMO.) would be $2565.00. However, with the benefits of the $10.72 I pay per month for the dental insurance, I will be saving $1069.00 for all the work I mentioned above.
